Caution! A lion in the jungle
The rare monkeys in Tropica are aptly called golden-headed lion tamarins. The thick and long orange manes framing its face make this small monkey look like a brave male lion. In the case of impending danger, golden-headed lion tamarins put their manes upright to appear much larger than they actually are.
Did you know…
That, in the wild, golden-headed lion tamarins are severely endangered? They exist only in the eastern part of Brazil. Their habitat is continuously shrinking due to logging and substitution by agricultural land.
Golden-headed lion tamarins
Golden-headed lion tamarins communicate with each other by means of seventeen different sounds. Are you unable to see the monkeys? In that case, listen for high squeaks, trembling sounds and calls that will give away their position. These callitrichids primarily live high in the trees and will never come down, not even to sleep.
