The scarlet ibises stand out among all the ducks in the Flamingo Lagoon. They wade stately true the gigantic pond with their long legs and bright-red feathers. Scarlett ibises are very social birds and are always surrounded by congeners, even in the Flamingo Lagoon.

The scarlet ibis’ nostrils are namely at the base of its beak, allowing it to continue to breathe while rooting around in the mud.
