A unique species
Hundreds of colourful Malawi cichlids will enchant you when you enter Safrica or the Pankong River. These tropical fishes originate from Lake Malawi in Africa. As this lake is not connected to any other body of water, the animals are endemic and exist nowhere else in the world.
Reproduction
Malawi cichlids raise their young in a very peculiar way. The female will take the eggs in her mouth once they have been inseminated. The young hatch already after a few days, but will remain in the female’s mouth for another three weeks at least. The female will then spit them out. That constitutes the end of a very intensive period for the female, as she will eat nothing at all during this entire period.

That Malawi cichlids can be divided in three groups: rock dwellers, orange roughy, and predators? Rock dwellers live along the shore, while predators live in open water. Orange roughy combine the both.
