Ocellate river stingray

I see, I see… What you don’t see

Have you already spotted the ocellate river stingray? If you cannot immediately see it, it might be hiding. Its camouflage makes the fish difficult to detect on a sandy background. Sand is disturbed when this stingray moves its fins vigorously, conveniently hiding the fish.

Ocellate river straingray

Its name says it already: the ocellate river stingray has two dots on its body that resemble the round ‘eyes’ in a peacock’s tail. Watch out if it feels threatened! Its tail is full of venomous barbs.

Did you know…

That a ray’s skeleton does not contain a single bone? Just like sharks, rays are cartilaginous fishes.
