Scarlet ibises

Ibises

The scarlet ibises stand out among all the ducks in the Flamingo Lagoon. They wade stately true the gigantic pond with their long legs and bright-red feathers. Scarlett ibises are very social birds and are always surrounded by congeners, even in the Flamingo Lagoon.

Did you know…

Foraging for food is a daily chore for the scarlet ibis? Using its long, curved beak, the scarlet ibis searches by touch for a delicious snack. Fortunately, it can do this endlessly. The scarlet ibis’ nostrils are namely at the base of its beak, allowing it to continue to breathe while rooting around in the mud.
