
Millions?!
The centipede owes its name to its numerous legs. Yet it’s not a million, but rather eighty to four hundred of them. Do you want to count the centipede’s legs? In that case, count the number of its segments on its armour-shaped body. Each segment is supported by four legs.
Undulating gait
In spite of its many legs, the centipede is not a sprinter. This is because its legs cannot move simultaneously per segment. Each leg moves forward independently and does this just a little earlier than the preceding leg. This creates an undulating gate from the rear to the front.
