Throwing a gender reveal party is not an option for a red-footed tortoise. For many tortoises, the gender of the young is determined by the outside temperature. The female will dig a hole in the sand in which to lay its eggs. As soon as the eggs have been deposited, she will cover the hole with sand and leaves. From that moment on, the mother will no longer look after her young and the sun takes care of the brooding.
